Galangal (Alpina galanga)
Common NamesChina Root, Indian Catarrh Root 

Description:  Galangal, native to Java, is related to and resembles Ginger.  Galangal gets to be about 5 feet in height, with long narrow leaves.  The unique flowers are white with deep red veins.  The rhizome is harvested and cut while fresh.  Its pungent scent and aroma made it a popular spice in Europe for a thousand years, but is rarely used today.

Uses:   Externally:  tones tissues.  Internally:  Remedy for Vomiting, Nausea, and Sea Sickness.
